That article reports that testing of unfiltered water in 493 Flint homes found:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>87%<\/strong> have water with lead content\u00a0of 5 parts per billion (ppb) or less (considered <strong>safe for everyone to drink<\/strong>, even small children)<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>9%<\/strong> have lead content of 6-15 ppb (considered <strong>safe for adults, needs to be filtered for children<\/strong>)<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>3%<\/strong> have\u00a0lead levels between 16-100 ppb (considered <strong>unsafe unless filtered<\/strong>)<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 30px;\"><strong>1%<\/strong> have lead levels above 100 ppb (considered <strong>unsafe even with a filter<\/strong>)<\/p>\n<p>For some context on these numbers, <a href=\"http:\/\/www.cnn.com\/2016\/03\/04\/us\/flint-water-crisis-fast-facts\/\" target=\"_blank\">this CNN report<\/a> notes that scientists at Virginia Tech tested water at the home of one Flint woman in 2015 and &#8220;found the lead level was as high as 13,200 ppb.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>While the water quality in Flint is improving, the process of fixing all the water service lines is still going to take some time.\u00a0On the positive side, a decreasing number of homes have to rely solely on bottled water. Most home drinking water in Flint is now safe as long as a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.enpress.com\/site\/president-obama-wqa-water-filters-flint-michigan\/\" target=\"_blank\">water filter<\/a> is in place.<\/p>\n<p>As the <em>Mother Jones<\/em> article states:\u00a0<em>&#8220;The filters are critical here. About 99 percent of Flint homes have safe water as long as a filter is properly installed and maintained.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>A new report reveals that
