That statistic comes from <a href=\"https:\/\/www.popsci.com\/how-to-test-lead-water\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">a recent <em>Popular Science<\/em> article<\/a> exploring how individuals can go about testing water for lead, and how the different options stack up.<\/p>\n<p>The article notes that some states like New York offer water testing kits for free and you can buy water testing kits for as low as $15 at hardware stores or from online retailers like Amazon.\u00a0<em>Popular Science <\/em>testing\u00a0found both these options provide similar results.<\/p>\n<p>Once you determine what, if anything, is in your water, you can then seek out the appropriate solution. In many cases, the best option is some form of filtration. <a href=\"https:\/\/lifehacker.com\/how-to-test-and-filter-your-tap-water-for-lead-1820373735\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">As this <em>LifeHacker<\/em> article notes<\/a>:<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;For environmental and cost reasons, filtration is a better bet than switching to bottled water. Whatever style of filter you use\u2014pitcher, under-the-sink, in-fridge, etc.\u2014you want to make sure it\u2019s certified to filter the contaminants you\u2019re concerned about.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>With all the recent news stories about lead contamination of tap water, many home and business owners have concerns.
