All told, those three cities will receive $1.6 million in grants.<\/p>\n<p>The New York Health Department is awarding a total of $20 million in grants to cities throughout the state to replace lead pipes.\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.governor.ny.gov\/news\/governor-cuomo-announces-20-million-awarded-replacement-residential-drinking-water-lead-service\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">In this statement<\/a>, New York Governor Andrew Cuomo said: &#8220;With this $20 million award, we are helping to protect residents and their families across this state and are creating a stronger, healthier New York.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>With many stories emerging about water contamination from lead pipes following <a href=\"https:\/\/www.enpress.com\/site\/president-obama-wqa-water-filters-flint-michigan\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">the water crisis in Flint, Michigan<\/a>, more and more states are taking preventative action to replace pipes and ensure the safety of drinking
