{"id":2340,"date":"2018-06-26T19:30:44","date_gmt":"2018-06-26T19:30:44","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.enpress.com\/site\/?p=2340"},"modified":"2018-09-04T16:15:54","modified_gmt":"2018-09-04T16:15:54","slug":"point-of-entry-lead-removal-drinking-water","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.enpress.com\/site\/point-of-entry-lead-removal-drinking-water\/","title":{"rendered":"How Point-of-Entry (POE) Systems Can Help Protect People from Lead"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>In <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wqpmag.com\/leveraging-lead-levels\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">this recent editorial written for <em>Water Quality Products (WQP)<\/em><\/a>, ENPRESS&#8217; own Michael Mormino wrote about the growing problem of lead contamination in drinking water nationwide.<\/p>\n<p>In the article, Mormino runs down the quick list of cities that have recently dealt with lead crises\u2014Flint, Chicago, Milwaukee, Newark, Denver, Pittsburgh, Providence, Oakland\u2014and notes that there is no &#8220;safe&#8221; level of lead in drinking water. This is a problem people need to be aware of and one that has the potential to impact all of us.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Some of the eye-opening figures mentioned in piece:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>6-10 million lead service lines in the United States<\/li>\n<li>96 million people may currently be getting their water from lead service lines<\/li>\n<li>$275 billion is the estimated cost to replace lead service lines nationally<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>High-level solutions like replacing all the lead service lines around the country will be costly and take decades, while small-scale solutions like turning to bottled water or using point-of-use (POU) filters are costly and inconvenient. A middle ground may be\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.enpress.com\/site\/product\/pioneer-system\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener\">point-of-entry (POE) devices that can remove lead from water going into a home or business<\/a> before it reaches sinks, showers, bathtubs, dishwashers, or refrigerators.<\/p>\n<p>As Mormino writes in the WQP piece: &#8220;Perhaps the solution for cities grappling with lead contamination lies in the water treatment industry, and specifically designed POE devices that filter all the water as it enters a home.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p><a
