{"id":2921,"date":"2019-05-20T15:11:27","date_gmt":"2019-05-20T19:11:27","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.enpress.com\/site\/?p=2921"},"modified":"2019-05-14T15:12:20","modified_gmt":"2019-05-14T19:12:20","slug":"new-report-shows-pfas-in-drinking-water-of-43-states","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.enpress.com\/site\/new-report-shows-pfas-in-drinking-water-of-43-states\/","title":{"rendered":"New Report Shows PFAS in Drinking Water of 43 States"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>According to <a href=\"https:\/\/www.wqpmag.com\/contaminant-removal\/report-finds-43-us-states-are-exposed-pfas\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">a recent article from <em>WQP<\/em><\/a>, a study conducted by Northeastern University and the nonprofit organization Environmental Working Group has revealed the presence of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.enpress.com\/site\/5-things-you-need-to-know-about-pfoa-pfos-chemicals\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">per- and polyfluoralkyl substances (PFAS)<\/a> in the drinking water supplies of sites in 43 of the 50 states.<\/p>\n<p>Some of the study findings noted in the article include:<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>19 million<\/strong> <strong>people<\/strong> exposed to the chemicals via drinking water contamination across the United States<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>610<\/strong> <strong>contaminated locations<\/strong>\u2014which includes public water systems, military bases, and other sites<\/p>\n<p style=\"padding-left: 40px;\"><strong>70<\/strong> <strong>parts per trillion<\/strong> is the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.epa.gov\/ground-water-and-drinking-water\/drinking-water-health-advisories-pfoa-and-pfos\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">advised lifetime exposure to PFOA and PFOS<\/a> from drinking water established by the EPA<\/p>\n<p>Environmental Working Group created <a href=\"https:\/\/www.ewg.org\/interactive-maps\/2019_pfas_contamination\/map\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">an interactive map<\/a> that illustrates where PFAS contamination can currently be found across the nation. Michigan, New York, California, Minnesota, Pennsylvania, Ohio, New Jersey Massachusetts, Rhode Island, North Carolina, Florida, and Illinois are among the states with multiple contaminated drinking-water sites shown on the map.<\/p>\n<p>Phil Brown, a Northeastern University professor of sociology and health sciences, is quoted in the <em>WQP<\/em> article saying: &#8220;The updated map shows that PFAS contamination is truly a nationwide problem, impacting millions of Americans in hundreds of communities.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>This recent study
