According to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.epa.gov\/newsreleases\/epa-proposes-updates-lead-and-copper-rule-better-protect-children-and-risk-0\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">EPA<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, the goal of the proposal is to, \u201c<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Require more water systems to act sooner to reduce lead levels and protect public health,<\/span><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> improve transparency and communication and better protect children and the most at-risk communities.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Modifications to the rule include:<\/span><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Requiring local utilities to test for lead in child-care facilities and schools.\u00a0<\/span>\n<ul>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Requiring all test findings from child-care facilities and schools to be public<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Requiring all test samples to be taken at homes with lead service lines (The current rule is only half) and informing homeowners of poor results within 24 hours.<\/span><\/li>\n<li style=\"font-weight: 400;\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Creating a \u201cTrigger Level\u201d of 10 parts per billion (The \u201cAction Level\u201d is 15 ppb now).<\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">Any level of lead in drinking water can be dangerous.
