{"id":3197,"date":"2019-12-10T11:54:25","date_gmt":"2019-12-10T16:54:25","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.enpress.com\/site\/?p=3197"},"modified":"2019-12-10T11:04:18","modified_gmt":"2019-12-10T16:04:18","slug":"government-funds-research-for-links-between-pfas-and-health-issues","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.enpress.com\/site\/government-funds-research-for-links-between-pfas-and-health-issues\/","title":{"rendered":"Government Funds Research for links between PFAS and Health issues"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">The <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.cdc.gov\/media\/releases\/2019\/p0923-cdc-atsdr-award-pfas-study.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">CDC<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> (Center for Disease Control) and ATSDR (Agency for Toxic Substances and Disease Registry) are providing certain states $1 million each to research links between <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.enpress.com\/site\/increasing-nationwide-concern-pfas-contamination-drinking-water\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">PFAS chemicals and human health issues.<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> The states include; Colorado, Michigan, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, Massachussettes, New York and California \u2013all of which have had high levels of PFAS found in their drinking water. The studies will examine those who have high levels of PFAS chemicals in their bodies, including an estimated 2,000 children (ages 4-17) and 6,000 adults (ages 18+).<\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">According to the <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2019\/12\/05\/us\/politics\/pfas-water-contamination.html\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">New York Times<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">, this is the first research funded by the federal government regarding PFAS. There are growing concerns with these chemicals as more and more people feel they\u2019ve been affected by them. For example, a woman\u2019s family in Pennsylvania has developed rare cancers and diseases (her daughters never grew their adult teeth) over the years after living near a <\/span><a href=\"https:\/\/www.enpress.com\/site\/pfas-contamination-identified-at-more-military-sites\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\">military base<\/span><\/a><span style=\"font-weight: 400;\"> with high levels of PFAS in its drinking water. These studies will hopefully lead to more understanding about PFAS and more protection against them.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The CDC and ATSDR are providing
