Orange County, California is shutting down their wells due to <\/span>PFAS<\/span><\/a> chemicals. The Orange County Water District (OCWD) is conducting a $1.4 million pilot treatment project to help combat PFAS contamination. Mike Markus explained to <\/span>Aquatech<\/span><\/a>, \u201c<\/span>This is a huge issue for us. The state of California is trying to determine the regulation for PFAS. And we have what are called response levels.\u201d\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Orange County is set to close down one third of their 200 groundwater wells by the end of 2020 for this project. It is the largest PFAS pilot project ever implemented in the US. This groundwater provides water for 77% of its water demands to around 2.5 million residents. According to the Aquatech article, Orange County is planning to make their response level for PFOA 40 ppt and 10 ppt for PFOS. The EPA\u2019s response level for all PFAS chemicals is 70 ppt.<\/span><\/p>\n
