To this day researchers are trying to figure out the many complexities of the drinking water contaminant, PFAS. Currently, we know that these harmful chemicals can have significant negative impacts on our health. Because of this, researchers want to change the classification of PFAS due to these health impacts. This according to an<\/span> article<\/span><\/a> written by<\/span> UPI<\/span><\/a>.<\/span><\/p>\n

PFAS have yet to be classified as “carcinogens” because there is not enough data that shows PFAS cause cancer within humans.<\/span><\/p>\n

Research from the Environmental Working Group (EWG) in Washington D.C. shows that PFAS act like cancer-causing chemicals by altering DNA and producing other harmful health issues. Samples that were contaminated by PFAS were taken and were correlated with the risk for non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma and a number of other cancers of individuals living in the Ohio Valley region.\u00a0\u00a0<\/span><\/p>\n

Not all PFAS would be considered as carcinogens, but according to Alexis Temkin, a toxicologist with EWG, five of the PFAS known so far have “key characteristics of carcinogens” while other PFAS “have at least one.”<\/span><\/p>\n
