They hope to maintain this supply of clean water until they distribute water filters throughout Benton Harbor. Lead contamination can be extremely dangerous, and therefore it is essential that healthy drinking alternatives are available. Local officials have waited three years for the help. They question if this is sufficient.

Cyndy Roper told CBS Detroit that this small action would not be enough. The water quality issue cannot be resolved with “a swing through the community”. Once the state delivers the filters, that is where their involvement ends. Combating contamination can take years, and after the incidents in Flint, Michigan, locals are understandably uneasy. The governor hopes to net $20 million for the sake of cleaning up the water, but nothing has yet come of it.

[/et_pb_text][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][et_pb_row admin_label=”CTA – PIONEER” _builder_version=”4.6.1″ _module_preset=”default” background_color=”#d2e2f4″ border_radii=”on|12px|12px|12px|12px” global_module=”3747″ saved_tabs=”all” collapsed=”on”][et_pb_column type=”4_4″ _builder_version=”4.6.1″ _module_preset=”default”][et_pb_text admin_label=”HDR” _builder_version=”4.6.1″ _module_preset=”default” header_2_font=”Open Sans|700||on|||||” header_2_text_align=”center”]

NOW REMOVES ARSENIC!

[/et_pb_text][et_pb_blurb admin_label=”CALL-TO-ACTION” _builder_version=”4.6.1″ _module_preset=”default”]

PIONEER is the First of its Kind Whole-House Lead, Cyst & PFOA/PFOS Removal System and now PIONEER Removes Arsenic! Contact us to learn more about this revolutionary system.

[/et_pb_blurb][/et_pb_column][/et_pb_row][/et_pb_section]

The state of Michigan looks to support Benton Harbor with water bottles and filters, but after 3 years is it too late?

The US Geological survey conducted research regarding different effects of droughts. In their recent study, they found that many prolonged droughts can cause a higher risk of exposure to arsenic in well water. Maine, New England, the Midwest, and the Southwest are all areas whose arsenic levels are regularly higher than the federal level allows. Although municipal water supplies are carefully monitored, private well water is not. This can be a danger to Americans because over 43 million people rely on private well water. A previous study revealed that somewhere between 1.5 and 2.9 million people are drinking water with unsafe levels of arsenic, and this number may increase to over 4 million in case of a drought.

Increased levels of arsenic may be caused by a decrease in groundwater levels, which causes changes in water chemistry. There are also some human responses to droughts, such as using ground water rather than surface water, which may also affect exposure. The number of droughts is expected to increase as a result of climate change, exposing even more Americans to unsafe drinking water.

Arsenic is highly dangerous because it causes a wide variety of health issues, and is odorless, colorless and tasteless - making it undetectable without a test. To help combat this issue, many states which are at high risk for droughts have programs to provide private well owners with arsenic tests. Although not all testing is free, these programs help make it affordable since it is recommended to test water every 3-5 years. By increasing awareness, doing additional research, and regularly testing water we can fight this
