PFAS are a dangerous and unfortunately common chemical in the modern day. This is largely attributed to the fact that PFAS are frequently used in packaging and labels to be grease-resistant. Companies have been determined to continue using products with PFAS because they simply lack an alternative. However, this may not be the case forever.<\/span><\/p>\n

Lecta Self-Adhesives has recently expanded on a project known as \u2018Adestor Gloss GP PFAS-Free\u2019. This gloss is designed to cover labels on packaging to prevent grease stains, but it is one of the few of its kind that does so without any forever chemicals. The <\/span>product manager director<\/span><\/a> explicitly stated that their goal was to create a comparable product that also takes environmental protection into account. While the government seeks ways to limit PFAS contamination, there is hope from the private sector that we can begin to replace PFAS within common products. <\/span><\/p>\n

The US Geological survey conducted research regarding different effects of droughts. In their recent study, they found that many prolonged droughts can cause a higher risk of exposure to arsenic in well water. Maine, New England, the Midwest, and the Southwest are all areas whose arsenic levels are regularly higher than the federal level allows. Although municipal water supplies are carefully monitored, private well water is not. This can be a danger to Americans because over 43 million people rely on private well water. A previous study revealed that somewhere between 1.5 and 2.9 million people are drinking water with unsafe levels of arsenic, and this number may increase to over 4 million in case of a drought.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Increased levels of arsenic may be caused by a decrease in groundwater levels, which causes changes in water chemistry. There are also some human responses to droughts, such as using ground water rather than surface water, which may also affect exposure. The number of droughts is expected to increase as a result of climate change, exposing even more Americans to unsafe drinking water.\u00a0<\/span><\/p>

Arsenic is highly dangerous because it causes a wide variety of health issues, and is odorless, colorless and tasteless - making it undetectable without a test. To help combat this issue, many states which are at high risk for droughts have programs to provide private well owners with arsenic tests. Although not all testing is free, these programs help make it affordable since it is recommended to test water every 3-5 years. By increasing awareness, doing additional research, and regularly testing water we can fight this
