On the first day back at Epsom Central, new signage will invite students to drink at water fountains that had been closed due to lead in the water. The elementary and middle schools recently added water filters to fountains and sinks to ensure clean water for its 380 students, joining the state’s Get the Lead Out of Drinking Water program.
“It’s what’s best for everyone,” Principal Patrick Connors said, “to keep everyone as safe as possible.”
Connors noted that about 80 water sources were tested and 21 filters were installed for bottle-fill stations and classroom sinks. Drinking-water stations received filters for both lead and PFAS, while hand-washing stations received filters for lead only.
