DuPont, Chemours and Corteva are three companies that have become infamous for their role in spreading PFAS across America. They were first held responsible in a 2023 decision in Ohio leading to payments of over $100 million. Since then, other affected states have been having their day in court with the trio.
The latest to get their piece has been New Jersey, who recently came to an agreement with DuPont, Chemours, and Corteva to pay a total of $875 million over the course of 25 years. The payments will be split between the three, with Chemours making up half of the payments. $16.5 million of the winnings will be dedicated toward combating PFAS contamination in the state. As states are seeking ways to compensate for a lack of federal action, these lawsuits provide critical funds.
