It is known now that PFAS are a common contaminant across the United States due to their use in packaging and firefighting foams, though it is often hard to track where they are most frequent. A study was conducted by the Social Science Environmental Health Institute at Northeastern University to discover the breadth of the forever chemicals’ spread.
This study was conducted across 34 states and the District of Columbia, and returned with concerning results. It was determined that 83% of the 114 water systems tested contained dangerous levels of PFAS. Amongst these, 63% of the sites had 35 different forms of PFAS contaminating the water. As restrictions on PFAS don’t go into effect until 2029, it is essential to stay up-to-date on the contaminant levels of your local water sources. Check out the study and see the contaminant map.
