A class action lawsuit filed by a group of Oregonians is accusing a local utility company and a creamery of “dangerous” nitrate pollution in residents’ well water.
The lawsuit, filed Friday in the United States District Court in Pendleton, accuses Portland General Electric Company and the Tillamook County Creamery Association of contaminating the groundwater in northeast Oregon with “dangerous levels of nitrates, associated with significant health problems.”
The plaintiff’s attorneys estimate that the dumping of nitrogen in Morrow and Umatilla Counties impacts thousands of residents in Oregon’s Lower Umatilla Basin.
