Sydney Explores Preservation Opportunities for Water Supplies

The city of Sydney, Australia is facing a long-term water shortage that leaves it in desperate need of usage changes. Droughts have led to a distressing lack of rainwater in the area, and the city is looking to alternate sources. The city’s population continues to grow, as well as its water usage, and it is a struggle to keep up. A recent drought knocked out 20% of their dam supply, and as the years go on it will deplete faster and faster. Another of the suggested ways to preserve water is through conservation.

According to The Guardian, efficiency programs have been tested within the area, and have not only saved water, but money as well. These programs work in tandem with other operations that desalinate & recycle different water sources. Another idea that the city had was recycling and purifying wastewater, though this idea would first need to be approved by residents. Between all of these plans, hopefully Sydney will be able to find the solution it needs to preserve its water.
