Winter Storm Leaves Texans Struggling For Drinking Water and Food

Recently, many communities across the state of Texas have been facing a slew of problems which include, burst pipes, rolling blackouts, scarce drinking water supplies, and more. Families have been struggling to provide clean drinking water within their households as water pipes are damaged and treatment plants within the state have been backed up.

A recent statement from Texan officials, orders over 7 million people across the state to boil water before usage. An article from The Guardian gives insight into the dire crisis that many in Texas are experiencing. As families struggle to keep a steady supply of drinking water, many have resorted to scooping piles of snow and using that as a substitute for their water needs. One resident commented about the situation saying: “We’re like pioneer people, going outside to collect snow, you know, in the freezing cold at night,”. Along with scarce water supplies, food supplies have also become an issue. Residents have lined up outside of grocery stores who have been running dangerously low on supplies that others rely on. The only steady thing these stores can provide to customers, is a tap water supply, which still has to be boiled before use.

Not only has this affected the state of Texas, but it has also affected other southern cities such as New Orleans, where bottled water was being provided to hospitals and patients via fire trucks.
